About regalia and ceremonial pieces

Crowns, diadems, masks and staff heads were made to be seen. They marked rank, office and ritual, and were often made of gold or gilded metal so they would catch the light in a crowd or a procession. Pieces like these were rarely discarded; when they turn up, it is usually as part of a burial, a deliberate offering or a treasure hidden in a hurry.
