The Vizier's Signet is one of the epic artefacts buried in FieldHunters, a free online metal detecting game. Hunters sweep a shared field with a metal detector, follow the signal and dig — and epic pieces like this one are among the rarest things that come out of the ground. There is no way to buy it: it has to be dug up.

About rings

Rings are among the most personal objects that survive in the ground. Signet rings carried a seal that pressed a mark into wax, so they worked as a signature as much as jewellery. Viking-age rings and arm-rings doubled as wealth you could wear: silver and gold were cut, weighed and traded, and a ring could be payment as easily as an ornament.
